Mathematics and Data Interpretation

Mathematics and Data Interpretation

Course start date: 11 September 2026

This module introduces learners to the essential mathematical, statistical, and data-handling skills required for study across a range of academic disciplines, including Business and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Computing and Data, and STEM. It is designed to build students’ confidence in working with numbers, applying mathematical methods, interpreting data, and using quantitative evidence to support problem-solving and decision-making in academic and real-world contexts.

Through practical and discipline-relevant activities, students will develop their ability to perform numerical calculations and apply fundamental mathematical techniques to straightforward problems. Topics such as algebra, equations, ratio, percentages, and introductory trigonometry will support learners in understanding how mathematical knowledge can be used across different subject pathways and professional settings.

The module also introduces learners to foundational statistical concepts and simple data analysis. Students will learn how to gather, organise, interpret, and present simple datasets, using measures such as averages and other basic statistical tools to draw meaningful conclusions. In doing so, they will strengthen their ability to engage with quantitative information critically and accurately.
